‘We can only fly by embracing each other’

We wish all our readers and advertisers a blessed festive season.

LOOKING back on the past year I am definitely not the only one saying: ‘This was a tough one!’

Tough on so many fronts and really hard to keep up with.

However, through the rush of every day into the next week, into the next month, which finally brings us here, there is one thing that this year has taught me – a stranger is truly a friend you did not know.

I have found some wonderfully amazing friends in people I would least have expected to be friends – people who came into my life for a reason, people who will stay for a reason.

Which brings me to the very many strangers out there … people we pass every day without a second thought of who they are, where they are from and what they stand for.

That is when the words of Luciano De Crescenzo comes to mind: “We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing each other.”

And is that not what this wonderful country of ours should be about?

Should we not explore the very many friendships waiting out there and embrace our neighbours no matter our differences? Should we not use this as an opportunity to get to know more about each other?

You may find a worthwhile friend in the strangers you do not know. You may even find common ground in beliefs and principles you never thought could possibly exist.

Why not think of this festive season and the new year as a new painting where you:

Draw lines with prayers

Erase mistakes with forgiveness

Dip the brush with lots of patience and colour it with love and respect

Be a blessing, encourage someone and take time to care

May you all enjoy a blessed festive season and may your travels be safe.

Let’s not forget to share some patience and smiles with those serving us from beyond counters.

May those of you who patrol our streets to keep us safe, be safe. May those of you in emergency rooms and vehicles have a quiet and peaceful holiday season.

May God bless our communities with a peaceful festive season filled with love and harmony and a prosperous new year.

We would also like to thank our readers and advertisers for their continuous support.

We are taking a short break and we will be back on January 2 for business as usual.
