Second-hand dealer in Turffontein sentenced to one year in prison

Booysens SAPS communications officer Capt Lorraine van Emmerik, said, “This is a stern warning to all second-hand dealers that they must obey the law.”

THE owner of a second-hand dealer was sentenced to one year in prison and received a fine of R3 000 after being found guilty of owning a dealership that doesn’t comply with the law.

This comes after Booysens SAPS deployed a police officer responsible for all second-hand dealer shops to ensure that dealers comply with the law that is prescribed to them.

On June 27, at about 12.30pm, he was doing an inspection at a dealer in Turffontein when he found that the owner was not complying with the instruction he was given.

The officer arrested the individual and the docket was taken to court, where the accused was found guilty.

The owner was also found guilty of being found with an unlicensed firearm.

SAPS says the officer had warned the individual on previous occasions about the matter.
