WATCH: Beast stands up against bullying

Beast was welcomed by cheers in a packed hall where both learners and teachers appreciated his presence.

SPRINGBOK rugby player Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira, together with Fidelity ADT, visited Laerskool Theo Wassenaar to talk about anti-bullying on November 6.

Beast was welcomed by cheers in a packed hall where both learners and teachers appreciated his presence.

“Thank you for having me here, you guys are the future of this country. I’m here to inspire and talk to you about something that is a problem – bullying. I am Beast and I stand up against bullying. Today I’m representing Fidelity ADT. We are here to speak about bullying because it is a bad thing. It hinders progress at school and life in general,” noted Tendai.

He said people like Tiger Woods were also bullied at school and they also stand up against it now.

Beast listed some of the examples of bullying: calling other learners names, making things up so others get into trouble, hitting, pinching, biting, pushing and shoving, taking things away from your friends, damaging other people’s belongings, stealing other people’s money, spreading rumours about others and intimidation.

“These things we can’t stand for and we say no to that. There is a huge number of learners who cannot come to school because they are afraid of bullying. They cannot progress at school or play sports. If you see someone bullying, take a stand and tell that person it is not right, report to your prefects or teachers. You cannot just stand there and do nothing because bullying can affect someone for a long time. Please stand up. Know I and a lot of rugby players are behind you. Let us respect one another,” he said.
