City needs public’s help to apprehend suspects

Mashaba calls on public to help arrest suspects.

FOLLOWING an armed robbery at the City Power substation in Mulbarton on October 20, City Power has opened a case of theft.

This comes after a group of six armed men, who are believed were driving a truck, broke into the substation at midnight and held up security officers and a staff member on duty, tied them up with cables and went on to steal valuable equipment. While the robbers were on a stealing spree, a City Power electrician who was working on an outage in Glenvista arrived at the substation trying to trace the outage fault. He was also held and tied up. The electrician was robbed of his work toolbox worth R3 500 and the other three victims were robbed of their cellphones.

Mayor Herman Mashaba said, “Police were called and a case of armed robbery has been opened at Mondeor Police Station. We cannot allow criminals to threaten the delivery of services in our city. I encourage anyone with information about this crime to visit the Mondeor police or City Power Risk Control on 011 490 7900.”
