Warrant officer arrested for the Meredale murder of his spouse

The suspect alleged the deceased attacked him with a knife and there was a struggle and a shot was accidentally discharged. The bullet which hit the deceased in the neck and exited through the left temple.

THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the shooting of a Nicolette Manganyi in Gale Street, Meredale, on August 31.

It is alleged the suspect, a warrant officer who is a member of the Vispol at Eldorado SAPS, arrived home at 8.30pm on the said day to find his wife sitting with a neighbour at his home in Meredale, drinking.

It is further alleged he asked her why she was drunk as he knew her to be a Christian but she told him she also wanted to be happy. The suspect joined his wife and neighbour in drinking.

Apparently, a call came through to the suspect’s phone and they quarrelled about the identity of the female caller. It is alleged the deceased became angry and threw the suspect’s phone onto the cement floor and told him to leave her house. The deceased threw the suspect out of her house.

The suspect alleged the deceased attacked him with a knife and there was a struggle and a shot was accidentally discharged. The bullet hit the deceased in the neck and exited through the left temple.

The suspect allegedly phoned an ambulance but the deceased was certified dead on their arrival. The suspect was arrested and the IPID took over the investigation. The suspect appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on September 3. The investigation continues.
