Interviewing runner-up Face of Spar Women’s Race

“Ladies, if you can’t stop thinking about it, then don’t stop working on it.”

THE RECORD/COURIER/CHRONICLE got to know Zondelela Ramashala, Meredale resident and runner-up of the Spar Women’s Challenge Face of the Race 2018 competition.

Zondelela (33), or Zondy as she is often called, was born in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, in the Cecilia Makhiwane Hospital. She is a wife and mother to two “naughty, but most adorable children”, as she described them. She leads an active and busy lifestyle in Meredale and she’ll be representing the Spar Joburg Race 2018 with Face of the Race winner and the other two runners-up.

To get to know her a bit better, Zondy was asked a few questions and responded with interesting (and inspiring) answers.

What do you do in your free time?

ZR: I just love spending time with my children. Sometimes though, their daddy will take them out so I can have some me time. Then I’d read a book or catch up on my favourite television programme or, better yet, catch up on my sleep.

What is your occupation?

ZR: Besides being a mom, I’m a civil engineering technologist – I work in construction. I studied at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where I obtained my national diploma in civil engineering. I went to the University of Johannesburg to further my studies. I did a degree in water engineering technology. I plan on studying further, but this year I’m taking a break to spend more time with my family.

What is your biggest passion in life, and why?

ZR: I am passionate about love. I try to show love in whichever form it’s needed, albeit through giving, keeping people company, helping out, or however. I believe that, as we are all God’s children, we all deserve to love and be loved.

How would you describe your daily eating plan?

ZR: I actually don’t have any plan. I promise you, I’m such a foodie. I eat whatever I can get my hands on. I try to exercise at least three times a week and to have a healthy breakfast.

What are your favourite foods?

ZR: A Xhosa dish called Umvubo. Unfortunately, there’s no English term for it, but I promise it’s a very delicious meal.

Do you cheat from time to time and what would be your biggest cheat food?

ZR: I do cheat now and then, with meat. It’s my weakness. I simply cannot stay away from meat for too long.

How many times have you participated in the Spar race? How did you prepare?

ZR: I did the race in 2014, 2015 and 2017. I missed the 2016 race due to exams – things were so hectic then. I prepare for these races a month in advance by jogging at least three times a week, and additional parkruns on Saturdays.

Do you have a specific beauty routine?

ZR: Not really – I do what most people do. I use normal face wash or exfoliator, and sometimes I apply facial masks.

What keeps you fit?

ZR: My construction boots … jokes! I try to exercise at least three times in a week, with parkruns on Saturdays. Sometimes I also do 30-day fitness challenges with my friends in the comfort of my own home.

Describe your exercise regime?

ZR: I don’t really stick to any specific regime – I just get up and go with whatever comes to mind.

What is your personal message to the women out there?

ZR: Ladies, if you can’t stop thinking about it, then don’t stop working on it.

Not to forget:

The winner of the campaign, Thulethu Ngqokwe, hails from Joburg North and will challenge her runners-up, Monique Naudé (East Rand), Zondelela Ramashala (Meredale – South Rand) and Adielah Johnson (West Rand) to raise as many shoes as possible for the Drop a Pair campaign. So, rally behind your campaign girl and show your part of Jozi has the biggest heart.

Zondelela Ramashala invites the Joburg South community to come together to support the drive. Let us show all of Joburg what the South can do for the underprivileged and inspire more to do the same. Help us reach our goal and keep hundreds of local children’s feet warm and happy.

You can drop off your shoes, and meet the Caxton team and Zondelela on race day, or you can drop them off at the Caxton Joburg South office situated at 1 Eaton Terrace, the ground floor of the Terrace Building, New Redruth, Alberton.

For more information contact Carina van der Walt 011 724 7000 during office hours.
