Firearms and ammo confiscated, three arrested

The suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and were detained at Booysens SAPS.

JOHANNESBURG Flying Squad police officers arrested three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Turffontein on August 28 at about 12.50pm.

The incident happened at the corner of Tully and Alexandra streets. It is alleged that the police officers were conducting routine patrols and they spotted a suspicious-looking black VW Golf 6 Gti with three occupants inside.

FOUND: A docket was also found in the car.

The police officers approached the vehicle and upon searching the vehicle and the occupants, one 9mm pistol without serial numbers, one magazine with 13 live rounds of ammunition and one police docket was found inside the vehicle. The firearm and the vehicle were confiscated and investigations are continuing.

DANGEROUS: A firearm, hidden underneath the seat covers retrieved.

The suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and detained at Booysens SAPS.

Officers at the scene were Sgt Steven Dludla, WO Vernon Govender, Const Vincent Malabane and Const Solly Tloti.

All three suspects aged between 31 and 34 will be appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
