A SHOOTOUT occurred on Kliprivier Road around noon on August 24.
According to Tiaan Jacobs, general manager of SOS Security, their firearm instructor was on his way past Kliprivier Road when he noticed a commotion on the street.
Moving closer he spotted that armed suspects were robbing a silver Toyota Hilux that had been forced off the road. The instructor fired on the suspects in an attempt to stop the robbery and the robbers returned fire as they moved towards a vehicle they were using.
According to Jacobs, the suspects were armed, some of them with rifles. Jumping into the vehicle the robbers took off towards the N12 onramp where they had to leave the vehicle due to a suspected collision.
Captain Lorraine from Emmerik, the spokesperson for Booysens SAPS, confirmed the suspects hijacked another vehicle to get away. The vehicle in question is currently being searched for by police.
It is currently unknown if any of the suspects were injured in the shooting exchange.
