WATCH: Sister United Drummers brings the beat to Jackson Drift’s community

The group would love to get sponsors

SISTERS United Drummers (SUD), founded by Zinhle Morobi (18) in 2017, is a group that dances for the community every Friday at the communal ground in Jackson Drift informal settlement.

Zinhle loves helping the community. When she noticed the number of young girls in the settlement, she knew she needed to do something to prevent them from getting involved in illegal activities. That was when she decided to establish SUD.

She told the COURIER that it was hard at the beginning to bring girls together because some parents didn’t trust her with their children. But as time went by, parents allowed their children to get involved with Zinhle’s group.

The group performs at local soccer tournaments, community functions and church events.

Zinhle is well known in the community for her excellent work.

The group consists of girls between the ages of five and 14.Expanding her services, she also teamed up with her sister to form a netball team for girls who were too old for SUD.

“Helping the community is important to me and so is bringing these children together. In order for the community to rise to be leaders of tomorrow, we have to share our skills and talent to teach others what we know. We will be role models to the young and they will strive to emulate us, which is a good thing,” said Zinhle.

The group would appreciate any donations and sponsorships. For more information on SUD you can contact Zinhle Morobi on 065 973 9998.
