Councillor Crichton, residents, clean up Oakdene
It is important for residents to get involved in clean-up activities of their neighbourhoods.
OAKDENE residents together with SOS Security and Ward 56 councillor, Michael Crichton, held a clean-up campaign in the park at the corner of Soutpansberg and Tafelberg Drive in Oakdene on Saturday, July 21.
This was part of the Johannesburg the mayor’s citywide “A Re Sebetseng” clean up initiative that takes place on the third Saturday of every month.
By the end of the clean-up, there was quite a significant difference, and the park was once again in a condition that one wouldn’t mind children to play in.
The clean-up consisted of litter picking and removing illegal signage.
Crichton said it was a privilege to be in the company of residents that want to take pride in their area by assisting with cleaning it up.
“The one thing that does concern me, though, is that the majority of the litter that is in Oakdene is a result of illegal dumping. I, therefore, encourage our residents and the private security vehicles that patrol the area, to be on the lookout for people who dump in the area,” he said.
He said if anyone sees someone dumping, they should take note of the vehicle’s registration number, and if possible, take a picture and send an SMS or WhatsApp message to 082 779 1361 so that the culprits can be traced and fined.
Crichton also thanked the Oakdene Neighbourhood Watch for their efforts in making the park beautiful.
