Councillor Chame helps out an homeless person

Her goal is to help the young man with a place to live or finding a shelter once he is discharged from hospital.

CELEBRATING world icon Tata Mandela, Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame spent her time with a homeless young man in Tulisa Park on July 18.

He depends on strangers for leftovers to eat and donations. Chame took it upon herself to clean the street corner where the young man lives with the help of her ward members, SAPS and JMPD. Seeing the state of the environment that he lives in Chame took him to South Rand Hospital where he was admitted for observation.

“Every year we commemorate Tata Mandela by doing activities that aim to touch a life or two, in the spirit of ubuntu. Mandela Day is not only about doing clean-ups but it is also a time for one to extend a helping hand in the spirit of ubuntu, just as Tata Madiba preached it and lived it,” said Chame.

Her goal is to help the young man with a place to live or finding a shelter once he is discharged from hospital.

“I hope and believe that the new administration in the government will start to address issues of this nature,” she said.
