Staff and patients at South Rand Hospital were already celebrating as they prepared for Mandela Day to mark the official handing over of a refurbished maternity and female medical ward. The project entailed flooring, painting and plumbing.

“We are handing over these wards on a special day of this global icon that would have turned 100 years on his birthday, the struggle icon that had believed in working, giving and sharing with his people. We are honouring the global icon by ensuring that healthcare services are rendered in a desirable and dignified environment,” said Kahlego Thejane, managing director (Bingo and Casinos) at Goldrush Gaming Group Head Office.

As part of the private and public partnership, which always seeks to improve the lives of the people and service delivery in the public facilities, the chairperson of the South Rand hospital board, Dr Nalini Maharaj initiated this partnership between the two entities.

“We know that this work done by Goldrush Group will make a tangible difference to the care we offer to our patients and we are all looking forward to a continuous long-term relationship with Goldrush Group in making South Rand Hospital a hospital of choice,” said Dr Maharaj.

The maternity ward had been turned into a friendly and comfortable environment with a resting room where female patients will spend time and mingle among themselves.

The hospital management welcomes and appreciates the durable work by Goldrush Group that will benefit their clients and all facility users.
