Dramatic shootout at Southgate Mall

K9 units and two suspects exchanged fire at Southgate Mall.

ONE was arrested after a dramatic shoot-out at Southgate Mall in Mondeor on July 12.

This comes after the members of the Fidelity Security Intel team worked in a joint adventure with the SAPS Crime Intelligence to apprehend suspicious people at a fuel garage near the Southgate Mall.

The Fidelity team was altered about the vehicle and called SAPS K9 for backup. When the K9 unit arrived they went to confront the two suspects in the car the suspects opened fire.

The Fidelity members and SAPS Crime Intelligence members immediately assisted the team by returning fire. In the shootout, one suspect was wounded and fell to the ground. From nowhere a second vehicle took the wounded suspect and drove off.”

The other suspect was then captured and an AK-47 was recovered in a bag inside the Toyota Corolla Quest that they were driving.

Fidelity CEO Wahl Bartmann said, “It is very encouraging to see the success of the partnership. We will continue working closely with the SAPS on these joint operations as we know they are effective in keeping crime out of these suburbs.”
