Spaar on Spares gives back to the community

Regents Park children spoiled with graffiti designs and a braai.

CHILDREN from disadvantaged families were treated to a whole lot of fun – complete with something to eat and drink.

Nadia Mohamed, owner and founder of Spaar on Spares hosted a graffiti event for children of Regents Park on Saturday, July 7.

The children were treated with care by Spaar on Spares staff members who served them food and drinks while being entertained by graffiti artists who were invited by Nadia to inspire the children of Regents Park.

The event was staged to educate children that there is more to life than drugs, fights and stealing and the group was even joined by some children from Rosettenville.

ART: Charles Keylock from MH. Crew, one of the graffiti artists that was present on the day painting walls and teaching the children how to do it.

Children truly enjoyed themselves and appreciated what was done for them on the day. One of the children, Gift Moloi said: “We hope that events like this can be staged every week. This will keep us off the streets. Most of the children of our ages have already adopted all the bad habits from the streets, so if we can have more events like this we won’t be captured by worldly events.”

Nadia Mohamed said: “Most of the children in the community have nothing to look forward to. They are being influenced by drug lords. We as the members of the community sometimes catch young children smoking drugs. So I saw a need to call up graffiti artists to entertain them and teach them about the importance of self-respect. Also, I have redone the park for them to play at. For me, the children of Regents Park are very special.”

HAVING FUN: Children were served with all kinds of meals just to ensure that they are happy.
