South Bassonia Karate Club free Self-Defence for women on July 21

Women need to get pro-active and stop being a potential victim.

JAPAN Karate Association (JKA) South Bassonia Karate Club will be hosting a free Self-Defence for Women workshop on July 21 and all women above 14 years of age are urged to attend.

Running under the theme “Don’t be a victim – Learn how to fight back” the workshop will prepare and equip women with strategic skills to survive an attack.

According to the club’s senior instructor, Karyn Smith, the workshop will also prevent women from being the bad guys’ target.

“This free workshop is a helpful introduction to self-defence for women and should not be missed. Learn tips and techniques to help defend yourself. As an experienced female instructor I will lead the workshop’s proceedings,” she said.

Karyn said the workshop was also established against the background of crime stats released by the SAPS for 2017 which show that crimes involving bodily or possible bodily harm were on the rise hence women had to take the lead and protect themselves.

Among several important lessons to be delivered at the workshop, women will learn how the way they carry themselves can prevent one from being a victim.

They will also learn how to use their body’s natural weapons as well as weapons they carry on a daily basis for self-protection, as well as effective kicks and punches.

The workshop will be hosted at 7 Rooigras Avenue, Bassonia, from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
