Meyers initiated a back to basics approach in dealing with issues in Ward 124

This approach entailed going street to street to engage with residents in identifying and noting down their issues and try resolving them.

Ward 124 DA PR councillor Tyrell Meyers invited region F2 stakeholders on June 29 to a site visit in Turffontein Street, Kenilworth, to show them that the DA’s approach to service delivery has indeed worked.

Meyers initiated a back to basics approach in dealing with issues in his allocated ward as a PR councillor that related to service delivery problems. This approach entailed going street to street to engage with residents in identifying and noting down their issues and try resolving them.

Residents tabled their issues and one of the issues that have been resolved were water meters protruding from the pavements. These were moved closer to boundary walls, making pavements accessible to pedestrians again.

The stakeholders were also briefed on a massive concrete block that was broken down as well and the Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) completed numerous reinstatements of the pavements along Turffontein Street between Leonard and Van Hulsteyn streets. Furthermore, damaged curbs were replaced, and stop signs and poles were repainted and properly fixed. In addition, Pikitup was there to assist with the removal of rubble left by developers.

There are small issues to attend to which will be given attention, but the back to basics approach has resulted in fewer complaints about electricity meters being stolen and damaged, as well as illegal dumping.

Meyers said: “I want to continue implementing this approach on other streets and work towards the Turffontein Racecourse. I would like to encourage residents and stakeholders to please get involved in keeping our community clean and safe. Also, I would like to thank the following stakeholders from JRA and Joburg Water for their support and assistance in keeping this community clean and safe: Mark Kruger, Makhosi Ndaba and Absolom Mkhumbeni.”
