Contractors finally fix The Edge Complex pavement

At about noon on June 20 contractors attended to the situation after months of complaints from Taylor and other store owners from the complex.

RAY Taylor, Essential Paint and Hardware’s owner, is fed up with the unattended deep trenches and unpaved pavements at The Edge Complex in Turffontein.

Taylor has lost customers because it is difficult for his customers to enter the complex who have to navigate through pavements which were dug-up by contractors. The pavement has been left in this unbearable state for more than four months now and Taylor has tried to contact Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA). Taylor told the COURIER he was informed that JRA was trying to get hold of the contractors to attend to the situation.

However, days went by without anything happening but the number of customers to his store were dwindling. The entire sidewalk of Turf Club Street from Kliprivier Drive to the corner of Turf Club, as well as Hay Street, is not well maintained.

Taylor said: “Weeks ago I went to one of the Soweto complexes. It was up to standard and you could see that this place is for business use. But, here no one cares. Customers must enter with 4x4s to get to the stores in the complex and the customers are complaining and are staying away. The pavement is a disgrace with all the litter adding to the problem.”

Even the visibility of the contractors doesn’t excite Taylor. He feels that the contractors will only work for one or two days and disappear.

When the COURIER contacted the CLO Priscilla Shiba she confirmed that the contractors are on site repairing the pavement.
