#RiseToTheChallenge: Schools SleepOut for Madiba

The movement had raised more money than any other single overnight event in South Africa’s history.

To mark what would have been Madiba’s 100th birthday, schools across the country are invited to join the Nelson Mandela School SleepOut™ empowered by Liliesleaf: For The Tomorrow Trust.

The 2018 SleepOut™ Movement aims to have 200 Schools SleepOut™ on Wednesday, July 18, on their premises and raise as many donations for the country’s schools in need, whilst also collectively breaking a Guinness Book of Records for Madiba.

Speaking at the launch of The 2018 SleepOut™ Movement, recently held at Chancellor House, Mobgeni Sibanda, Redhill deputy head boy and 2017 School SleepOut™ brand ambassador said the movement had raised more money than any other single overnight event in South Africa’s history.

“The SleepOut™ initiative gives you more awareness of what is out there especially going to different beneficiaries, like children’s homes and really opening your eyes to what’s happening in South Africa,” he said.

Different schools across the country will benefit from this initiative with beneficiary schools in Gauteng including Alexandra Secondary School, Bokamoso Secondary School, Diepsloot Primary School, Emfundisweni Primary School, Ingqayizivele Secondary School, Kwadedangendlale Secondary School, Thabisang Primary School and Tlamatlama Primary School.

AMBASSADORS: Some of the school’s SleepOut ambassadors attend the movement’s press launch.

The 2018 SleepOut™ Movement presents several unique new opportunities for everyone in South Africa to #RiseToTheChallenge in honour of Nelson Mandela’s 100th year and raise awareness of the plight and injustice of homelessness, as well as raise funds to assist in eradicating this social inequality, in a series of memorable events.
