MANDISA Nzuza (25) who originally comes from Durban, visited The Airplane Factory in Tedderfield Airpark on May 29, for her private pilot licence (PPL) training with Sean Russell, the chief test pilot.
She was with her father, Sabelo Masimini, when she flew the Sling 4 TSi for about 20 minutes. “I recently started flying and I didn’t know about The Airplane Factory. I’m doing my licence at Durban Aviation Centre, and I must say this Sling 4 TSi is the best aircraft I have been in. In comparison, I can say I have been using Tazz and here I was introduced to Etios,” she chuckled.
Mandisa developed an interest in technology and that is why she is in aviation. She also mentioned that she is building relationships because there aren’t many female pilots. It is also a fact that it is quite costly to do these licences.
“It is very expensive. This licence can cost up to R180 000 and the whole package up to R500 000 until you can fly commercially and get paid. I must say I was not born in a poor family and they are not rich either. That is why I always look to the private sector, as well as the government, to help me financially,” she said.
