Off-duty JMPD officer arrested attempting to solicit R3000 bribe in Turffontein

He has been detained at MoffatView SAPS and will face Internal Disciplinary Action for bringing the Department into disrepute.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police officer was arrested on Monday, June 4, on 6th street and Turf Road in  Turffontein for allegedly attempting to solicit a bribe and enforcing illegally whilst not on duty.

The 33 year old Male officer was arrested by the members of JMPD Internal Affairs after he had stopped a motorist for disobeying a red traffic light , he spoke to the driver and allegedly attempted to solicit a R3000 bribe from the motorist.

The Internal Affairs officers got suspicious when the officer started driving the motorist vehicle and the friend drove the officers vehicle a VW Caddy which doesn’t belong to the JMPD fleet.

The officer has been absent without leave from work during the time of the arrest and was wearing the JMPD
uniform to solicit the bribes and has been linked to other robberies, hijackings and extortion.

“The Chief of Police Mr David Tembe welcomes the arrest of the officer as bribery and corruption defeats all the efforts of fighting lawlessness and restoring Law and Order. This is a strong warning to all the Metro Police officers who are involved in criminal activities as the department has no room for corruption”

He has been detained at MoffatView SAPS and will face Internal Disciplinary Action for bringing the Department into disrepute.
