Bellavista Old Age Home residents complains about garden maintenance

Ever since the gardener retired in December 2017 they are expected to fulfil his duties since he hasn’t been replaced and the dirt is all over the place.

RESIDENTS from the Bellavista Old Age Home are complaining that since last year December they are responsible for the maintenance of the garden.

Ever since the gardener retired in December 2017 they are expected to fulfil his duties since he hasn’t been replaced and the dirt is all over the place.

The residents can’t stand the dirt around them any longer. Every morning they have to pick up leaves and most of the elderly are sick so this intensifies their health. Not long ago one of the residents was hospitalised due to these bad conditions they live under. No one has bothered to assist them and when they inform the manager of the old age home they get no response from him.

Sakkie Bezuidenhout said: “This old age home is a mess. Everything is broken. We have broken sewerage pipes, tall trees and dirty toilets that are a problem for us.

“The most disturbing thing to us is the maintenance of the garden since we are now responsible to do the work. The government is not paying us to clean the garden. Someone must be hired to ensure the place is clean and maintained. Since the previous gardener retired he hasn’t been replaced. I mean, only old people live here and many are on medication and now they have to face this kind of filth.’’

The COURIER called the manager of the old age several times but he was unavailable.

The residents are appealing to the manager to find a caretaker for the garden.

“We are old people and we need special attention, so if we waste our energy on cleaning it drains us a lot. Also, fix the sewerage pipes and cut the tall trees that are a nuisance to us,” Bezuidenhout told Courier.
