Rosettenville ‘evicted residents’ belongings placed on pavement
The tenants said they did not receive any notice prior the eviction and they were puzzled when the police told them to get out of the premises.
PEOPLE living on a large property that was ‘sub-divided’ into five stands in Rosettenville, on the corner of George and Haig streets, were evicted on May 9.
The sheriff of the court was accompanied by the Moffat View SAPS when the eviction was conducted. The families’ belongings were put outside on the pavements. Apparently, the house has been bought from the owner and is earmarked for a church.
The tenants said they did not receive any notice prior the eviction and they were puzzled when the police told them to get off the premises.

Ward 56 Clr Michael Crichton said this appears to be quite a complicated case. “According to the sheriff of the court, Mr Swanepoel, it is a legal eviction and a matter that has been outstanding since 2016. However, according to the residents, they received no notice of this eviction and as a result, have not had time to make arrangements to find new accommodation.
“I tried my best to get hold of the new owner last night (May 9) to discuss the matter with him, but he was unreachable. I will ask general Sibiya’s Group Forensics Department to investigate this matter as well,” he said.
