5 tips on what to say and do when making an emergency call

National Paramedical Services give useful tips.

IT is important that people know who to call in case of an emergency and it is best to have emergency numbers saved on your cellphone.

National Paramedical Services (NPS) shared useful tips about what to say and do when making an emergency call to them.

Five easy steps:

1. Know the NPS 24-hour emergency number which is 071 530 2479.

2. The emergency control room dispatcher will answer your call and introduce themselves, asking what your emergency is.

3. Always give the following information like your name, your NPS membership number, nature of the emergency, a telephone number for NPS to contact you back, incident address, house number, street name and nearest crossroad.

4. The dispatcher may ask for more information to ensure that they dispatch the correct medical response to the correct location.

5. All emergency calls are screened and prioritised by the dispatcher, and based on the nature and urgency of your medical emergency, an emergency vehicle will be dispatched to your call for help.

Should you come across an accident or have a medical emergency please call their 24/7 emergency line.

Save it now. Your call can make a difference.
