Our daughter, Shayla House, has made it into the finalist round (to be held in Klerksdorp on August 9 to 11) for the Miss Toddler and Tween of the World South Africa beauty pageant (age category five to six years).
One of the items Shayla has to get, or raise awareness about, is charity boxes (otherwise known as Santa’s Shoe Boxes). As this is a charity item, we really want to get as many of these boxes as we possibly can. This is for a worthy cause and will help put smiles on the faces of many abandoned and unwanted children.
We are kindly asking our community to please help little Shayla by getting involved in this initiative by either sponsoring a few boxes or offering a donation which will go towards the purchase of the boxes (we will be more than happy to provide you with receipts as proof).
Shayla has made a personal goal to assemble 160 boxes for 160 children. On average, it costs R150 per box. We would like to get as close to that goal as possible. So far we have collected 24 boxes, but, even though we are still far away from our goal, we know that with a little bit of help from our community, we can get there.
Items required for each box is a shoe box with an item of clothing, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a facecloth and soap, an educational toy and a standard toy. The age group and gender do not matter. The boxes must not be sealed.
If you or your company would like to help by sponsoring some boxes or monetary value towards them, we would love to take a photo of you and Shayla (with her sash on), as well as the items bought, which we will post on the pageant’s Facebook page. You or your company will be mentioned and given proper thanks.
