THE Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has learned with shock off and condemns with strongest possible terms the killing of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department Inspector, Ayanda Zulu, on April 4.
The officer was shot dead by two unknown suspects outside her home in Palm Springs, south of Johannesburg. The suspects fled the scene with her 9mm firearm. Zulu was stationed in Region D, Soweto.
“The province has been robbed of a selfless and dedicated officer. Her passing is not in vain and it would not weaken the morale of our police force but will instead encourage them to do even more to continue to protect and serve our communities. In the last seven months, about 12 metro police officers have died in the line of duty in Gauteng with five of these murders occurring in February. This must stop before we know we will be left with no one to protect the good citizens of this country.
“I appeal to the Criminal Justice System to expedite this case and give the perpetrators the harshest sentence. This will send a strong message to the would-be perpetrators that such atrocities cannot be tolerated in our country.
“On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government I would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the Zulu family, friends and the fellow JMPD members,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
