Eikenhof women get self-defence lessons

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 9.30am, which will be the AGM meeting.

BEING able to defend yourself if you are attacked is a good lesson for anyone to learn and at the March meeting of the Eikenhof Women’s Institute two members of Mondeor’s SAPS, Elizabeth Mnguni and Shirley Gqoba, came along to show the ladies some moves that could help them defend themselves.

“The element of surprise is the best way to go. If you are at home and you hear an intruder in the house, grab curry or chilli powder to throw in their face. This will definitely slow them down and you can try and escape to get outside and call for help,” Mnguni said.

PATTERN-MAKING: Jean Ross shows how to cut out a pattern from a garment.

The second half the meeting had member Jean Ross showing how to cut out a pattern from a garment.

“This is cheaper than buying a new pattern and very often we like clothing which we already have. Just choose a different material and you’ll have a new dress or top for a fraction of the price,” said Jean.

A delicious tea was served to the members and guests after the talks. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11, at 9.30am, which will be the AGM meeting.
