15-year-old author aims to inspire

Meet Ntando Makwela (15) - author, motivational speaker and ‘youth maverick’.

AT 15 years old, Ntando Makwela has released his first book, titled The Dynamic Kid – 9 Keys to Unlock Your Future.

It’s a self-help book which Ntando believes will speak to many, young and old, providing the reader with step-by-step guidance to becoming a dynamic person.

The 15-year-old author said the journey to publication wasn’t an easy one. “I had to make the time,” he said when asked how he struck a balance between his writing and his school work.

A Grade 10 learner at the Nova Pioneer Academy in Ormonde, the Mulbarton-born whizzkid is also a motivational speaker.

The ‘youth maverick’ is a co-host of The Megan Werner Show on internet radio station Brandlive.co.za. The show motivates and inspires young people with life lessons and provides them with tips on enhancing their talents.

PLANNER: Author Ntando Makwela and his proud father, Mandla, think about the future.

Ntando looks up to other authors such as Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, and T Harv Eker, author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.

His father, Mandla Makwela, also an aspirant author, said one can only be proud describing his son’s accomplishment.

He said Ntando was constantly curious from a young age. “Even though he has his episodes like any other child, he is focused,” he said.

Mandla said he hopes Ntando will tend to the writing and public speaking side in his career while dabbling in a couple of business interests. He also hopes his son doesn’t go into politics but rather becomes an adviser to politicians.

The proud father said his son’s book was a challenge well overcome. He said Ntando wanted to produce a compelling book that would get the ‘nod’ from his mentors.

The book has certainly made an impact – since its release on December 15, Ntando has been bombarded with interviews.

His mother, Claudia Makwera, said she was as proud as any mother can be.

Looking to his future academic career, Ntando said he will most likely major in science. For now, however, he is focused on another challenge. He and a team of other ‘dynamic kids’ from around Johannesburg will partner to build a miniature plane that will be flown from Cape Town to Cairo.
