Well done, Class of 2017

Kenilworth High was the only school in the South to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate in the NSC exams.

GAUTENG Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi released the Gauteng matric results for 2017 at Nokuthula LSEN School in Lyndhurst on January 5. The province’s pass rate is 85.1 per cent.

The MEC also recognised learners and schools for academic excellence in various categories, including subject performance, top performing township school learners, top learner in the SSIP programme, as well as most improved and top performing schools.

“I wish to congratulate the Class of 2017 for achieving a pass rate of 85.1 per cent, consistent with the previous class,” Lesufi said. “This is even though other provinces have shown a decline compared to the previous year. This sustained performance confirms the fact that the Gauteng education system is a stable system.”

The department registered 108 522 full-time and 42 066 part-time matric candidates, which made the 2017 NSC examinations in Gauteng the second-biggest of the country’s nine provinces. The increase in the number of part-time candidates in the province pointed to a major contribution from the Second Chance Programme for out-of-school youth.
