Police hunt bogus cops

According to some of the complainants, the suspects produce or show you the JMPD badge, pull you over then after one get robbed on the spot.

FOLLOWING a series of robberies, carjacking and business robberies around Moffat View, whereby suspects were dressed in full Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) uniform, police are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Moffat View SAPS communications officer Capt Jeff Phora said the preliminary police investigation has revealed that the suspects (three African males) are driving both a white Toyota Etios and a white Ford Ranger whenever they perpetrate these crimes.

According to some of the complainants, the suspects produce or show you the JMPD badge after pulling you over, and then they rob you on the spot.

Head of Moffat View SAPS Col Lesley Lloyd said: “We would also like to sensitise the community not to confront the suspects as they are armed and dangerous. All they need to do is to contact the nearest police station or 0800 10111 or SAPS Moffat View on 011 405 1500. This can also be reported anonymously.”

Police would further like to appeal to the community to be vigilant and be on their best behaviour as the festive season is very hectic.
