Primary school needs assistance

"I invite the Southerners to come on board and help us."

THE Mossie Primary School in Forest Hill is urging the community, businesses, companies or individuals to help them with their deteriorating infrastructure.

In a meeting with the COURIER, Marvin Crosby, the acting principal, and Gerrit Cloete, a concerned parent, it was established that the school needs a helping hand in order to perform optimally.

The principal acknowledged that some of the learners’ parents struggle to make ends meet and find it difficult to at least pay school fees. However, those who can need to meet the school halfway.

“The school needs a massive revamp and maintenance. I want to produce and create excellence at this school, to instil independence in our learners. However, I cannot do this when some of the learners come to school without proper shoes or uniform. That is why I appeal to anyone out there to come to the school and see what I’m talking about,” explained Marvin.

The school classes are in dire need of tiling. The floor is made of wood and is worn out and very dusty. The toilets require painting and fixing of toilet seats. The hall needs to be partitioned so they can have extra classes. The admin office needs to be secured and renovated.

When the parents fetch their children, they are in danger because of busy Gantner Street. That is why the school needs to construct a waiting area. The palisade fence hasn’t been painted in ages. And although the learners are passionate about sport, the grounds are in bad condition.

“I invite the Southerners to come on board and help us. The education of these learners is at stake here. We need to pull together and help one another,” he said.

Gerrit Cloete emphasised the importance of paying school fees, especially for those parents who can afford to.

“It will uplift the school. You cannot put a price on the education of the learners. Let us all work together,” he said.
