A video of an officer who was injured and disarmed after two warning shots were fired have emerged.

The video, which is said to have been taken in Hillbrow, shows an officer walking away from an apparently disgruntled mob.

The officer was wounded by the mob.

In the footage, the altercation between the mob and the officer is said to have been initiated by the Johannesburg Metro police officer (JMPD) after he and a tow truck driver attempted to move a vehicle which was parked interrupting traffic on November 10 around 9am.

The mob, who are believed to be congregants were, according to reports, defending their member who had a vehicle parked ‘unlawfully’ claiming that there were more heinous crimes that JMPD could focus on – implying the vehicle should have been left alone.

The officer was severely beaten in the attack and was sent to Milpark Hospital for treatment.

TMPD Snr Supt Weyne Mienaar on Monday said the officer had regained consciousness and was discharged.

Where the congregants right to use force to disarm the officer?

What should the officer have done differently?
