MANY were left stranded on Wednesday morning throughout the country as local taxi operators joined the National Taxi Alliance (NTA) in a nationwide strike.

School pupils writing exams and workers were left scrambling for alternative plans.

The alliance is expected to march to the offices of the minister of transport in Tshwane over several issues.

Scrapping of traffic fines, a request for a government subsidy, licensing and operating permits were some of the grievances the taxi mob were in arms for.

Some of the people living in Soweto could not make it to work.

All taxi services in Soweto were said to be suspended for a day and operators were en route to Tshwane.

The traffic department has warned motorists to use alternative routes.

This struck many reactions on social media with some asking why this had to interrupt school pupils during exams.

The department of education had issued a warning to parents to make alternative arrangements.
