Commitment to create safest and most secure shopping environment

The Zenprop group wishes to assure that community and the loyal customers of the mall of its absolute commitment to create the safest and most secure shopping environment possible under the current conditions faced in South Africa at present.

MUST GO

THE Zenprop group develops, manages and owns a diverse property portfolio in South Africa, including a number of shopping centres. The Mall of the South which opened in 2015, is a recent addition to this portfolio.

The Zenprop group is deeply concerned about the dramatic increase in crime across South Africa, with shopping Malls not left unscathed by this scourge. Whilst the group has no control over the dramatic increase in crime overall, it has given the Centre Management team, SAPS, the appointed security firms and the tenants of the shopping mall its full support in investigating and initiating further procedures and initiatives to assist and contribute towards reducing the incidents at the Mall of the South, so as to ensure, as far as it is possible within its powers, a safe and secure environment for the tenants and customers of the mall.

In addition to the already increased security personnel patrolling the mall common areas, as immediate and direct action, the Zenprop group has allocated additional funding and resources to security personnel to ensure a heightened and visible security presence. It strives to physically enhance the boundary control and security. These measures include a lock-down of the higher risk pedestrian gate entrances and the electrification of the perimeter fence.

It has engaged with additional security specialists to assist the centre management team in deploying additional measures and training of its tenant base.

Two specific store categories that have been identified as high risk at most retail developments are mobile phone providers, and jewellery stores. Centre management is currently engaging with these tenants to review their security measures and protocols and will table additional security and safety measures to assist tenants in securing their customers, staff and stock.

The Centre Management team is in dynamic conversation with various community policing and safety forums and SAPS representatives who are providing their full support.

The Zenprop group wishes to assure the community and loyal customers of the mall, of its absolute commitment to creating the safest and most secure shopping environment possible under the current conditions facing South Africa at present.
