Community shares their reading preferences

"There’s something so charming about a good book that no screen will ever be able to replace."

WITH September 8 being International Literacy Day, the COURIER ventured into town to find out what community members’ reading preferences are – paper pages, or reading from a screen? Here’s what they had to say.

AVID SCREEN READER: Kevin Kelly said: “Even though books don’t pose a cyber-crime threat like reading from the internet, I prefer reading online. Only if my data is finished, do I settle for a normal book.”
LOVE NEW BOOK SMELL: Jaleesa Mohomane, who works in Alberton, said: “I adore books, especially brand new, hard-cover ones. I love smelling it. Screens hurt my eyes and I always lose the page number when I read from an app.”
BOOKS TO RELAX: Celeste Peters said: “I’m passionate about books, especially spiritual or self-development books. I’m always in front of screens at work, so it’s nice to read from paper pages and take a little break.”
LOVES BOTH: Yolanda Steenkamp, who resides in Alberton, said: “Out of convenience, I like to read from my tablet. However, I also like to read books and magazines just to unwind and refresh my mind.”
