A passion for potions

“Organic gardening is becoming big here in South Africa now and if you have a small space in your garden, cultivate it, and plant vegetables and herbs. They’ll also grow quite happily among your flower beds.”

WELL-RESPECTED guest speaker – Patsy Vergeer – who is famous for her potions from the garden, attended the Johannesburg South Garden Club’s August meeting.

Her love for herbs began after she was ill as a youngster and a plant saved her life. In her teens she began a herb and veggie garden and it’s been one of the love’s of her life ever since.

She is a member of the Horticultural Society and the Herb Association of South Africa and began her business, Patsy’s Potions about 21 years ago. She makes all her own healing, culinary and beauty products.

“I love my garden and frequently chat to my plants and flowers,” Patsy laughed. “When you are a gardener, everything you do in the garden, should be done with love. The marvellous thing about growing your own herbs and vegetables is that you can pick them fresh every day and cook with them. It’s wonderful.
