UPDATE: Mall of the South management confirms armed robbery

“Seven suspects, with their faces covered and wearing gloves, entered the mall with crowbars and hammers. The suspects broke the shop front window and made off with an undisclosed amount of goods."

MALL of the South centre management confirms a break in took place at Cajees jewellery store on Tuesday, August 29, at approximately 9.10pm.

“Seven suspects, with their faces covered and wearing gloves, entered the mall with crowbars and hammers. The suspects broke the shop front window and made off with an undisclosed amount of goods. The incident took approximately a minute and a half,” said Hester Smith, Mall of the South’s centre manager.

When mall security tried stopping the suspects they opened fire at them. The SAPS and armed response company were notified immediately. The suspects fled the scene in a silver BMW and a white VW GTI parked on Kliprivier Drive. No injuries were sustained.

The SAPS is presently investigating.
