Turffontein Primary school gets chairs and tables

Energy Joburg is developing several landfill gas to electricity projects in partnership with the City of Johannesburg on the Pikitup landfill sites.

ENERGY Joburg purchased and delivered 120 lower primary chairs and 60 lower primary double tables for Turffontein Primary School as part of its socio-economic development initiative.

A needs assessment survey was conducted and Turffontein Primary School was identified as one of the schools which can benefit from the project.

Bruno Matsila from Energy Joburg said they partnered with the school and saw that it needed desks and chairs for the learners.

“The learners at school were using broken chairs and sharing desks, often with four or five children to a desk or even working without any desk. The purpose of this programme is to provide suitable durable resources so the children can focus on their studies and achieve better grades.

“As part of the Renewable Electricity Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), Energy Joburg has committed to several socio-economic development initiatives. One of these initiatives is to support local communities that are within a 50km radius of each project site.

“As these communities are large and involve a great number of people, we have decided to focus our resources and efforts on improving education facilities that serve the local community,” explained Bruno.
