BREAKING NEWS

An old man sent a message on a WhatsApp group asking for help when his son was beating him up at around 3pm this afternoon, May 22, in South Hills.

Councillor Faeeza saw on one of the WhatsApp groups that there was a message that an old man was asking for help because his son was beating him.

Clr Faeeza sent the message to Moffatview SAPS and to a community member that stays next to the Swinburn Old Age Home.

A community member reported to the councillor that the old man appeared to be dead.

The old man was found lying on the floor beaten and strangled with a rope around his neck.

It is alleged that the son was using drugs and beating his father for drug money.

According to the neighbours he always beat up his father from time to time.

Clr Faeeza has raised concerns with the council on numerous occasions about children staying with the elderly in old age homes.

“Old age homes is for the elderly people and not for children and grand children,” she said.

The suspect is in custody at the Moffat View SAPS.

Clr Faeeza sends her condolences to the family.
