Solid Truth Worship Centre promotes local talent

The team has done hundreds of songs as a band and have released two albums.

LOCAL band from Elandspark, Synergy Mellow, has just released another single, ‘Should I Stay’.

The band consists of Louis Mazhata (26), Lordmark Mazhata (28) and Talent Chinembiri (31) and the trio has formed a synergy and bonded as brothers in music. Now partnering with a community church, Solid Truth Worship Centre, the band has been playing in churches for many years.

“Playing in church is what we love. We served in church together from 2006 to 2011 and this was when my brother, Seymour Chinembiri, came up with the name Synergy Mellow for the band,” said Talent.

About the band

Formally from Harare, Zimbabwe, the band members have been living in South Africa for about two years and been fellowshipping with Solid Truth Worship Centre for a year, since Pastor Sam Govender sought out the band and took them in.

“In 2015, we were supposed to go to America to perform and that was going to be our first international tour. Unfortunately, it did not happen as some other band members were denied visas at the last minute. We decided to take a break following this disappointment,” said Talent.

In Zimbabwe, music was only something they did part time as they also worked and were involved in ministry. But in South Africa, they have more time to focus on music. Here, the band eats, sleeps and breathes music with no outside influences.

Music achievements

“We released our first gospel single in 2011, ‘When You Call’, and that stayed on the Power FM gospel charts in Zimbabwe for six months and even made it to number one. We have also collaborated with well-known musician Mudiwa Hood and are currently still recording singles,” said lead singer Louis.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Solid Truth Worship Centre and partnering with them to progress our careers. We miss our families but we came here to work and make music. We love working with the band here at church and enjoy teaching them how to improve on their vocals and as a band,” said Lordmark.

Synergy Mellow also worked with the YMCA in 2012 and won a tender which saw them performing the Act 2 Live programme’s theme song. The song is now being used in 19 African countries and four European countries.

Pastor comments

The CHRONICLE also spoke to Pastor Sam Govender, from Solid Truth Worship Centre, who took the band under his wing.

“The church had a need for musicians and we outsourced this. After making enquiries, we got in touch with the band and brought them into our family. They adapted well to the multi-cultural style of Solid Truth,” said Pastor Sam.

He confirmed that the main objective was to bring balance and even representation on stage to cater for the different cultures in the congregation.

“Solid Truth is a community based church and we promote talent. We train the team and equip them to help others who want to learn. We worked closely with the band and in the end we both helped each other as they looked for opportunity and were in need,” said Pastor Sam.

Solid Truth eventually plans to open up a training school for musicians and other churches. The church team is also in the process of starting to record live worship.

“We have improved greatly from where we were and there is always room for improvement. The band plays a vital part in youth, every Friday night from 19:30. We invite all the youth in the community to be a part of it,” said Pastor Sam.

Solid Truth is situated at 45 Mcintosh Street, Elandspark.
