Fire station repainted

DA ward 23 Clr Sarah Wissler wants the initiative to grow and bring about such positive changes in other fire stations.

A GROUP of concerned residents from the South and local upliftment organisations joined forces with DA ward 23 Councillor Sarah Wissler to repaint the Kibler Park Fire Station over the weekend of Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26.

JOYFUL: Children enjoyed every moment as they helped refurbish the fire station.

The initiative to give the fire station a facelift got the blessing of MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, and was meant to showcase that locals do care about the well-being of their hero firefighters.

LEADERSHIP: Clr Wissler is proud to have been able to mobilise locals.

Clr Wissler said, “I am so happy to see such a large number of people arrive so early in the morning to partake in this initiative. I am sure there are still more people coming to join in to help us improve this station. Hopefully will be able to reach out to other stations too.

“The station will also be getting a hospital bed that can be used in cases of emergency, for an injured person to be cared for in the station while an ambulance is still coming. We know that sometimes people may be nearer the station and they will get medical care before they are taken to hospital.”

REPAINTING: Making the Kibler Park Fire Station looks brand new was the goal on Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26.

The plan, according to Clr Wissler, is to get support from local organisations and individuals so that the firefighters can have their own washing machine and cutlery. Hifi Corp donated a plasma TV to the station, and hopefully the pool table can be refurbished.

A very proud station commander, Priscilla Dabane, said she felt very grateful towards everyone who had a hand in the initiative. She also wanted to remind all parents at home to keep safe and protect and monitor their children around fire, stoves and electricity, as winter is on its way and the possibility of fires breaking out is high.

Clr Wissler said, “I am very grateful to all the community members who put their valuable time into this initiative. I also want to thank Thaba Eco Hotel. And I love JHB South for their support.”
