Working together works

This campaign will take place on an ongoing basis to hopefully change the mindset of businesses and ultimately uplift the outlook of the area as well.

A COLLABORATIVE clean-up campaign took place on Main Street, Rosettenville, on Saturday, April 8.

WORTHY INITIATIVE: The bakkie that was donated to The Hill Awareness Group by Suzuki Johannesburg South in action.

Several stakeholders, such as The Hill Awareness Group, Suzuki Johannesburg South, Spar Kenilworth, the Environmental Health Department and Pikitup joined forces to make this initiative possible.

AFTERMATH: The Main Street looking great after the clean-up.

The following was achieved on the day of the campaign:

• Overgrown grass and vegetation was removed.

• All littering and illegal dumping was handled.

• Fifty-five businesses were issued with stakeholder’s notices by the Environmental Health Department for proper waste management and consequences that could be faced if rules are not adhered to.

• Thirty-eight statutory notices were issued by the Environmental Health Department to salons and formal food premises for non-compliance. (A total of 93 notices were issued).

PRUNING: Overgrown grass and vegetation was trimmed.

The main aim and objectives of this campaign would never have been achieved without collaboration. This campaign will take place on an ongoing basis to hopefully change the mindset of businesses and ultimately uplift the outlook of the area as well.
