500kg of stolen copper cable found

The owner of the scrap metal premises has been arrested

JOHANNESBURG Metro Police Department members and Streetwise Security officers found over 500 kilograms of stolen copper cable at a scrap metal business on Wednesday, March 29.

Captain Lorraine van Emmerik, from Booysens SAPS, says they were patrolling in the Booysens Reserve area in search of copper cable and visited several scrap metal premises.

“At one of the businesses, the officers noticed small pieces of copper. “When they searched the outside of the premises, they found over 500 kilograms of stolen copper cable and the owner of the scrap metal business was arrested,” she said.
