Mzelemu is ready to serve with integrity

A former influential member of the ANC has joined the DA.

A FORMER member of the ANC, known to be influential among local activists, has joined the Democratic Alliance (DA) after a clash with the local ANC’s David Webster branch in ward 57.

Sibusiso Mzelemu was initially suspended for 10 years from the ANC when the branch’s disciplinary committee announced it found him guilty of bringing the organisation into disrepute, among other findings.

Mzelemu was, however, convinced that the decision would not stand and appealed it at provincial level where the the committee’s charge sheet was found to not be complying with an appendix 3 of the ANC’s constitution.

A decision was then made to lift his suspension with immediate effect.

Thebane Parkies, the secretary of the ANC David Webster branch in ward 57, told the COURIER he wanted it to be made public that Mzelemu was no longer a member of the ANC and those who follow him must know that they are not following the ANC.

Telling his side of the story, Mzelemu said: “As I was no longer under suspension, I took time to think and decided to hand in my resignation to the branch. Thebane signed it on Wednesday, February 15. I felt the ANC is no longer the same and that the good people in that organisation are overpowered by the bad ones who have now gained power.

“There is no accountability in the ANC of today; you can see this in issues like Marikana and Sebokeng, where people died but no one is going to be accountable.

TAKE NOTE: Thebane Parkies, secretary of the ANC David Webster branch in ward 57, said he wants Mzelemu to make it known he has joined the DA.

“Having been sought-after by numerous parties for some time, I decided to join the DA because it is a party of integrity and the only party that takes action – you can see a good example in mayor Herman Mashaba.

“I was one of the few people from the local ANC who has qualifications. I was a teacher in the ANC, but today I am starting all over again. I am going to a programme to learn about the DA while serving as a foot activist who is not assuming any position.”

Ward 57 DA chairman Faried Davids said: “Sibusiso said he is not interested in any position but just wants to serve the public with integrity and honesty. He has been the incumbent of many leadership positions and today he is here to learn and start afresh. We welcomed him with pride and open arms.”
