Life is about change

Life is about change, one knock and you get up, another knock and it’s harder to get back up, one more knock and you can’t get up. This is what can happen to us all.

WOMAN@WORK, coordinated by Toni Mackrell, held its monthly meeting with guest speaker, Niki Seberini, inspirational storyteller, talk show host and communications host. The women were enthralled with her talk.

Niki, who is passionate about helping people “get unstuck”, said she had to change her mindset to move on. “You have to learn to clear the mind of stressful, draining, and limiting thoughts, so you can live, unencumbered, in the present moment. I often think of the song, You’ve Got Yourself Stuck in the Moment and You Can’t Get out Of It – by U2 – and how this reflects the life of many of us and what we are going through.

“Life is about change: one knock and you get up, another knock and it’s harder to get back up, one more knock and you can’t get up. This is what can happen to us all.

“I went through quite a few personal knocks and one day was very, very lost. Then something happened which made me feel differently towards life. I was travelling with my son in the car and out of nowhere I saw another vehicle hurtling towards us and I managed to swerve. Only when we arrived home later, the shock struck me as to what could have happened. I then embarked on a journey of self-discovery, finding my way back to myself. I knew I had to clear my mind of bad thoughts to move on. We are each able to do this,” Niki added.

The charity of choice for the evening was Chayil Foundation, a non-profit organisation which believes in reaching out to bring change to communities in the South of Johannesburg. They assist with soup kitchens and drug addiction programmes and care for those less fortunate.

Toni thanked all the women for coming to the February event and for giving towards the Chayil Foundation.
