The body of a young white man who was found burnt beyond recognition and dumped in Elandspark was finally identified since the discovery on Thursday, January 26, at around 7:30 along Rand Airport Road.

Cornelia Rudman, from South African Search and Rescue, informed the COURIER about the news after the newspaper followed up on developments as various efforts were taken to try and get the young man identified but difficulties were experienced.

According to the Moffat View SAPS’ Constable Phystos Masola was near to giving the government mortuary permission to bury the deceased as the family could not be found.

“As per your previous article relating to the unidentified burnt body found in Elandspark, it tickled my curiosity as we had a white male in his mid 30s who went missing and moved back to the area. The last contact was on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, and his body was found on Thursday, January 26.

“We identified the body as AJ Isaac Cohen Fourie. There was no record of his family and we traced his family. They have positively identified him as being AJ and his family received the closure they deserve.

“South Africa Search and Rescue will now assist the SAPS and the investigating officer in finding the persons responsible for his death,” said Cornelia.

Const Phystos Masola confirmed to the COURIER that the family has already removed the body of the young man from the Hillbrow mortuary to a mortuary of their choice.
