THE Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) announced that the number of unplaced learners whose parents applied online had been drastically reduced to 2 865 by Friday, January 27.
However, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi confirmed that late applications and placements are increasing daily and the number now stands at 18 327. Of the parents who applied late, 9 651 learners have been placed. This brings the total number of learners placed in January to 65 651.
The GDE’s head of communication, Oupa Bodibe, said districts and schools remain in close contact to follow-up on queries from parents of unplaced learners. “We are encouraged by the work of our district officials working in 62 operations centres and urge parents to visit these centres for assistance,” he said.
