An unexpected boardroom member

ON Tuesday, December 13, AACL inspectors went out to City Deep to see if they could catch a baboon that had been roaming around the area for the past two weeks.

Sightings and the location of the baboon had been vague and whenever the inspectors were in the area, the baboon could not be located. Unbelievably, the baboon trapped himself in the boardroom of a business and the inspectors were notified.

One of the options when deciding how to catch the baboon was by trapping, but none of the traps that the inspectors had were suitable. They decided to phone Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) to see if they could assist with a cage.

As luck would have it, it turned out that they were also trying to catch the same baboon, but were at another business in the area where the baboon had previously been sighted.

Inspector Armand Jackson met with Cora Bailey and Taryn Welthagen from CLAW, and together they proceeded to the boardroom. After assessing the situation, it was decided to place an automatic trap baited with food in the boardroom and patiently wait for the animal to go in. Patience paid off, as two hours later the baboon was safely trapped and on its way to a rehabilitation centre, and the meeting was finally adjourned.
