Life made “sew” much easier for 34 local women
These women are from the five Gauteng shelters they did their 60-days accredited sewing course at Sew Africa College
THIRTY-FOUR women graduated with an accredited sewing course at the first Edgars UNiTE Orange Day Campaign graduation ceremony, at Edcon Retail Academy, Ormonde, on December 2.
These women are from five Gauteng shelters and they completed their 60-day accredited sewing course at Sew Africa College, based in the Fashion District, in Johannesburg CBD. The training empowered them with the skills and knowledge they need to make an income in the future.
A significant portion of the syllabus the women completed was focused on the production of quality sewn items that meet industry production standards. This, therefore, increases their chances of being employed in the clothing and retail space. Since the completion of their training, the women are able to produce an extensive range of garments and homeware products and each received a sewing machine to help kick-start their future careers.
