AK-47 recovered at shootout

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.

METRO police officers injured a suspect during a shootout in Turffontein on Tuesday, December 6.

Cpt Lorraine van Emmerik from Booysens SAPS said at around 23:06, metro police officers were patrolling and saw a suspicious-looking vehicle, a silver Ford, pass them. There were three men inside the vehicle and the JMPD officers decided to follow the vehicle. The Ford driver suddenly stopped the vehicle, switched off the lights and one of the passengers got out and opened fire on the metro police officers.

The members returned fire and the suspect fell down. Then the driver of the vehicle got out and started shooting at the officers while the third occupant helped the injured suspect back into the vehicle and they drove off.

Found on the scene were AK-47 rounds as well as one AK-47 assault rifle and its cartridges. Nobody else was injured. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
