Ronnie Recycler and Mrs SA finalist plant with Dumbo Nursery

Dumbo Nursery, along with many other schools, runs a monthly paper drive which contributes towards the Mpact Recycling Schools Competition.

DUMBO Nursery’s top recyclers in Brackenhurst recently received a visit from Ronnie Recycler (Mpact recycling mascot) and Tamzin Vassanjee (Mrs South Africa finalist), to reward their excellent contributions to the recycling programme.

Dumbo Nursery joined the Ronnie Recycler Schools Programme a year ago and are now proud recycling ambassadors.

According to the marketing representative of Mpact, Yasmeen Adam, the school has a green Ronnie bank, which they fill on a monthly basis.

“We encourage learners to bring paper, magazines, newspapers, cartons (milk and juice cartons) etc., from home in their little green Ronnie bags, provided by Mpact Recycling,” said Adam.

Dumbo Nursery, along with many other schools, runs a monthly paper drive, which contributes to the Mpact Recycling Schools Competition, which ends at the end of September.

The top recycling learners were rewarded monthly, by Mpact Recycling, with incentives.

Dumbo Nursery also has a sustainable vegetable garden in their backyard. They grow, harvest and consume the vegetables from their own garden. This includes cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, onions, beetroot, tomatoes and green beans.

Mrs SA finalist Tamzin Vassanjee enjoyed planting a cabbage with the little ones.

Due to the water restrictions, each class supplies a two litre bottle of water from home in order to water the garden, and this was initiated by the grade R learners.

Owner and principal Debbie Farquharson welcomed Ronnie and Tamzin to plant a cabbage in the vegetable garden.

Dumbo Nursery would like to thank their learners and parents for supporting the school’s recycling initiative and encourage more community members and businesses to get involved, by donating all their unwanted paper, magazines and newspapers to the school for recycling. They need contributions to help them increase their recycling volumes on a continual basis
